The Feast of the Assumption of Mary
Next week on Thursday August 15th, we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption.
This is a significant day in the Catholic Church, marking the moment when Mary was taken up body and soul into Heaven, at the end of her earthly life. This feast reminds us of Mary's purity and her special role as the Mother of her son, Jesus.
For Catholics, the Assumption is not only a celebration of Mary's unique place as the mother of Jesus but also a reminder of the promise of eternal life for all who follow Christ. The belief that Mary was assumed into Heaven serves as a sign of hope and a model of faith for us all. It is a day to reflect on her life of humility, obedience, and deep devotion to God's will.
In many cultures, the Assumption is celebrated with processions, special masses, and other festivities. It is a Holy Day of Obligation, meaning Catholics are required to attend Mass, honouring Mary’s role in the Church and her closeness to God.
The Feast of the Assumption offers an opportunity to teach our tamariki about the importance of Mary in our Catholic faith, encouraging them to look to her as a model of virtue and discipleship.
We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating this special day with a mass on Thursday 15th August at 11.00am in the Hall.
Mary mother of Jesus, Pray for us.
