You may have noticed recent media coverage about the teaching of reading in Primary Schools.

The research about how children learn to read, supports the theory that knowing individual sounds and putting sounds together to create words is much more effective for the learner than using picture cues and context. We feel really affirmed here at St. Francis that we have been teaching reading using a structured literacy approach since the beginning of 2020.
