Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi
As a Catholic Community we celebrate Trinity Sunday as part of the Church’s liturgical year this weekend.
Relationships, love and unity is important to who we are as Catholics. We have a great example and model of relationship in the Holy Trinity – the Trinity exemplifies love – it is the love of the Father for his Son, the love of the Son for his Father and the overarching love of the life giving Holy Spirit. It is love that binds the three together. It is this love and relationship that’s the essence of the Trinity.
After Trinity Sunday, the Church celebrates The Feast of Corpus Christi, also known as The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This Feast commemorates the immense gift of the Eucharist in our lives and in the Church.
In Latin, Corpus Christi means Body of Christ. Corpus Christi Sunday allows us to focus solely on celebrating the real presence of Christ – Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity – in the bread and wine.
In the coming weeks, some of our students will receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion (Holy Eucharist). Please remember these children in your prayers as they complete their preparation for this truely Holy occasion.
The Eucharist is such a fundamental aspect of our faith but unfortunately, one that we can easily take for granted. It is said that if Angels could envy humans, they would envy our ability to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. When we receive Communion, Christ is closer to us than ever! We should never take this precious gift for granted.
