St Francis @ Delta Level 2

Jo Earl —

Back to face to face (kanohi ki te kanohi) learning for all on Thursday 9th September 2021.

Kia ora koutou

We are so proud of our teachers and learners and the way they seamlessly moved offsite for the rāhui. We are so pleased to be able to come back onsite with our learning and welcome our learners face to face.

As a school, we will take Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for this. This preparation will include a thorough clean and teachers and support staff working on transitioning the teaching and learning back to kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face).

The children who have been attending Alert Level 3 Bubble School will still be supervised on Wednesday (if required) and the learners who have been working from home will continue to learn and be supervised from home until Thursday.

Our teachers have already assigned learning tasks for Wednesday's at home learning but there will be no Google Meets (video conferences) as the teachers will be taking part in a safety briefing and making their preparations for returning to work on-site at school.

While many people will be delighted to return to school, we understand that some students will be apprehensive. Please let your child's Kaiako Manaaki know via email if this is the case for your child.

What does Delta Alert Level 2 look like at St Francis?

- Drop off and Pick up

MOE Guidelines for Delta Alert Level 2  suggest that  parents and caregivers do not come on site if at all possible. We will have drop off and pick up only approach to restrict the number of ‘adults on-site’. Where possible there should be one person designated for pick up and drop off.

Kākano Students - From Thursday onwards we will deliver children to the gates - please complete this form to let us know which gate you would prefer to meet your child at.

Of course there will be some children that this will not work for initially and that is ok. If you need to come onsite you MUST either scan in using the QR codes on the gates or buildings OR go the office and sign in on paper or on the Vistab. It is also recommended that you wear a mask. We will be vigilant about this so please don't be offended if staff ask you if you have signed in.

- wearing of face masks

Schools are currently seeking more clarity from the Ministry of Education about face mask requirements, and we are still waiting for advice. As soon as we have this I will email you with recommendations.

Return of School Owned Devices

If your child was loaned a school-owned Chromebook this needs to be returned to school with the charger on Thursday. Please get your child to return these devices to the school office. Thank you.

Standard hygiene measures

We will do our very best to enact standard hygiene protocols and work within the set parameters of Delta Level 2 as per Ministry of Health orders for school settings. Please prepare your child for this.

This includes:

  • hand hygiene – that is, washing hands regularly with soap and water and drying well, or using hand sanitiser when soap and water aren’t available
  • coughing or sneezing into tissues or your elbow and then performing hand hygiene
  • cleaning surfaces regularly.

Please don't hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions. You may be thinking about something we have not thought of yet!

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou
