Teachers learning te Reo Māori

Melissa Clease —

This week, 6 teachers at St Joseph's School celebrated the completion of a semester of learning te reo Māori.

For 14 weeks, six of our staff have given their own time to attend Māori language classes. The classes run from 4-7pm on a weeknight, and are provided by Ngāi Tahu, funded through the Ministry of Education. The focus is on learning language that can be used in the classroom, as well as pepeha, mihi, karakia and waiata. There are also a number of assignments that need to be completed as part of the learning.

Congratulations to Alice Johns, Anna Alfano, Gerardine Baxter, Greg Brown and Sarah Philpott for completing level 1, and to Melissa Clease for completing Level 4. Koia kai a koutou! - you are awesome!
