The Christchurch Schools' Music Festival

Melissa Clease —

Last Thursday night the St Joseph's School Choir performed at an incredible evening of music and song.

The school choir was part of nearly 1000 primary school students performing at the Town Hall. Choirs from 21 different schools were involved in singing the massed items on Thursday night, on just one of the four nights of performances for the Music Festival. The standard of music at the event was very high, and it was hard to believe that all the students involved were only in Years 5-8.

The music for the evening was around the theme of the Olympics, and songs covered a diverse range from the Olympic Anthem to the Beatles, to movies like Brave and Zootopia. Our choir had worked extremely hard to learn the songs and to remember all the words! On the night, they sang beautifully and represented our school impeccably.

There were also two Special Representative Choirs, an orchestra and a concert band performing during the evening. These were made up of students from across Christchurch, who had auditioned earlier in the year. We were very proud to have one of our Year 8 students, Jada Smart, accepted into the Senior Representative Choir, which meant she sang at all 4 performances last week!

Thank you to the staff and parents who supported the students to take part in such an amazing event, and we can't wait to do it again next year!
