Happenings in the Whare Pukapuka

Manja Pieters —

The Scholastic Book Fair is open!

The book fair is on now and will run until about 3.30pm on Friday 18 November. Open for children before and after school; adults are welcome any time (it is busiest before and after school). We take cash, and now contactless EFTPOS in the library..

If anything says ‘display copy only’ we will order another copy for you, so please come to the desk or see Manja and ask to order it.

My favourites today:

DK is an amazing publisher; I have never picked up a book of theirs I haven’t been impressed with. These are quality publications in every way. We have Egyptian Myths by Jean Menzies and illustrated by Katie Ponder, a beautifully illustrated book of short myths and other information about life in Egypt. Find this in the non-fiction section.

One of my favourite and prolific NZ authors is Kyle Mewburn who has written a book illustrated by Daron Parton called We Saw a Spinosaurus. It is a wonderfully made-up-rhymy book that is so much fun to read aloud. Find this in the Kiwi section.

Thank you so much to the kids and adults who have popped in to help behind the desk!

Competitions

Competitions close on Thursday (so we can get the prizes to you on Friday)!

As usual, we run competitions to win books and vouchers from the Book Fair. Anyone can enter our competitions to enter the draw to win. You can:

● Guess the book in the jar (we will set this up, with entry forms, during the Book Fair).

AND/OR (competitions designed by our students), either:

● Design your own book cover for your favourite book.

● Design your own illustration for a book you enjoyed reading.

● Write your own book or Graphic Novel/Comic to display in the whare pukapuka for other students to read.

● Write your own poem, story or article.

● Create an artwork or diorama based on a book you liked.

Pop your name and class on your submission, drop it off to the whare pukapuka and you’ll be in the draw!

A reminder to dig out any library books

We will be closing in a few weeks to clean up, rearrange and do the annual stocktake so do have a poke around for any of our wayward books. Drop me a line if you are having any troubles locating anything and we will check our shelves.

 Thanks! manja.pieters@stjopapa.school.nz
