Let's Talk About Sensory Processing
An Online Learning Module from the Te Whatu Ora and the Child Development Service
Sensory preferences are individual to every person. Differences in these preferences can impact how a tamaiti/child manages the things they need to do every day.
This module has been created by occupational therapists at the Child Development Service, Te Whatu Ora Waitaha, Canterbury.
The purpose of this module is to help you identify your child’s sensory preferences and how these impact their everyday activities. You will also learn about alert charts and how you can create one for your tamaiti/child to support their sensory needs.
How this module works:
You can work through this module on your own, with your partner, or as a whānau/family. This module is for anyone who spends time with a tamaiti with sensory differences.
This module includes a lot of information and it may take some time to work your way through it, so feel free to take break and come back to it. It also includes links to resources you can use during the learning and beyond.
When you work through each topic, you can stop, pause, reflect, and restart at any time.
