Uniform Survey
A huge thanks to the 150 parents and caregivers who completed the uniform survey. This feedback will be essential in assisting the Board in making decisions about future uniform changes. A student survey was also undertaken by the Student Council.
The feedback from the parent and caregiver survey indicates the following:
- Most respondents preferred a formal uniform that looked smart.
- Respondents were divided on the practicality and comfort of the girl's summer uniform.
- Respondents were divided over the effectiveness of having both winter and summer uniforms.
- Respondents were divided on their likes or dislikes of the uniform colour.
- The majority of feedback was negative about the pinafore.
- The majority of feedback was negative about the ties.
- Respondents liked having a uniform where children looked the same.
- Feedback confirmed there were durability issues with the Pinafore and Merino jerseys.
- Respondents liked the uniform looking similar to other Catholic schools.
- Respondents liked the softshell jackets.
- Respondents strongly disliked the white shirts.
- Respondents stated that the woollen jersey was scratchy.
- Respondents felt the boys' uniform was shabby, not practical and uncomfortable.
The feedback from the Year 3-8 student survey indicates the following:
- Girls strongly dislike white shirts.
- Boys strongly dislike ties because they get in the way
- Girls strongly dislike pinafores because they can't play the same as boys.
- Both boys and girls dislike the lack of originality with the uniform.
- Both boys and girls seriously dislike the woollen socks.
- Boys dislike the grey colour of their uniforms.
- Boys strongly dislike buttons and collars.
- The girls mentioned that there were issues with dressing and undressing
- Both boys and girls said they were too hot in long sleeves but cold in shorts.
Earlier in the year, the Board also reviewed a report published by the Human Rights Commission about school uniforms. The Board will now consider all the survey information gathered, as well as this report and its guidelines, and will communicate with the community on the next steps following our next Board meeting.
