Out of School Sports

Aaron Richards —

This article explains the difference between school-based curriculum Sport and extra-curricula, out of school sport, that is affiliated with the school.

Our children love playing sports. We are lucky to have facilities that enable us to involve children in different sporting opportunities across the school. Some of the Physical Education and Sport activity that is linked to the curriculum and takes place during sports time include:

  • Perceptual Motor Programme for New Entrants,
  • Sports studies where specials groups visit the school and teach children specific sport-related skills such as tennis, hockey, golf, etc.
  • Swim Safe
  • School sports competitions such as swimming, cross country, Triathlon, Duathlon, Athletics, etc.
  • Weekly winter sport for the Year 7-8 children.

There is also a sport affiliated programme. This includes teams of students who are playing in competitions out of school time. Many of the competitions require the out of school teams to be affiliated with a school in order to register.

As we want to provide our students with a variety of sporting opportunities, the school agrees to support these out of school teams by registering them under the school name and providing a team uniform.

As the out of school sport is not part of the school's curriculum programme, the school is unable to fund the player subscription. As an extra-curricular activity parents are required to meet this cost.

Many of the organisations running the out of school sports competitions do not have the facility to gather payment from individual prayers. As a result, the school has agreed to gather the subscription fee on their behalf and pay the subscription in bulk from the school account.

The teachers overseeing the out of school programme provide all families that have registered in the affiliated sports programme with an information sheet that clearly sets out the conditions for participating in the sport. All players must return the form signed by their parents or caregivers confirming that they agree with the conditions.

The form and subscription payment must be received by the school office before the child can participate in the out of school sports programme. Please note: - subscriptions still owing from previous years must also be covered before participation in the current programme.
