St Joseph's is a Sunsafe school
As a Sunsafe school, the school has procedures and practices in place to keep children safe from the sun.
Hats and Caps - All children in Years 1-6 are required to wear a uniform (royal blue) wide-brim sunhat when outside for extended periods of time such as playtime, lunchtime or when participating in outdoor events. Children who do not have a hat are required to remain under the classroom verandas.
Children in Years 7-8 have the option of wearing a uniform peaked cap. The caps are available from the office and cost $15.00.
Sun Screen - During terms 1 and 4 we encourage all children to apply sunscreen before they leave home in the morning. The school also provide all children with access to sunscreen in all classrooms and at all events. We will encourage children to wear sunscreen, however, we can not force children to apply sunscreen and we can not assist children in applying sunscreen.
Shade - We have shade around the school. There are shade sails over the junior playground and the picnic tables. We have trees around the school where children can escape the sun at lunchtime.
On days that are extremely hot, children may be asked to eat their lunch inside so that they are not sitting in the sun.
