Philippine Independence Day 2023
On Monday, students and staff at St Joseph's School experienced the culture and hospitality of our wonderful Filipino community.
Monday, June 12th, was Philippine Independence Day, and we were honoured to celebrate it alongside our Filipino community.Filipino students wore their traditional clothes, and led the school in celebrating this important day along with the culture and languages of the Philippines.
There were 2 liturgies with songs, dances, and prayers, as well as a display of the Filipino love for Basketball and the impressive skills of some of our students. The morning liturgy also had special guests from the Ritmo Filipino Group, which included Chloe, one of our Year 7 students. They performed a dance, Pandango Sa Ilaw, and we were all amazed at how they managed to balance the glasses on their heads!
Through the generosity of our Filipino families, students were able to try FIlipino food at lunchtime, and I know there were a lot of happy and full tummies among students and staff!
Thank you so much to the Filipino community for your generosity and organisation, and to those students and parents who took part in the liturgies. We are so blessed to have you as part of our school community.
