Kite making competition

St Joseph's School Temuka —

As part of our 2022 Matariki celebrations The Y is running a primary school Manu tukutuku/kitemaking competition as a fun way of introducing our tamariki to Matariki.

Why a Manu tukutuku/kitemaking competition?

Historically Manu tukutuku/kites have played an important role in Māori culture ( for more info check out this video from Te Papa https://youtu.be/1VsWzwpxLfg) particularly during the winter season when they were flown to signify the start of Matariki, the Māori New Year.

To enter follow this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Y_Matariki and we will be in touch with your free starter packs. These packs will contain string, bamboo sticks and a cover letter outlining the competition expectations for each age group with you tube links to instructional videos.

The winners of each age group will be displayed at the 2022 Youth Art Exhibition.
