Matariki Stories

St Joseph's School —

My star is Hiwa-i-te rangi.  It represents the wishing star.  People start to wish for the future then he starts he grant his power for the future.

George

Pōhutakawa is my favourite star in the cluster.  I love my star.  It is at the bottom of the cluster.

Lincoln

This is the star Hiwa-i-te-rangi.  This star represents a promise of a prosperous season.  Waiti is under Hiwa-i-te-rangi.

Sam

Tupu-ā-nuku represents food from the ground. My star is by Matariki.  Above my star is Tupu-ā-rangi.

Reggie

The wind part of the cluster, the ‘king of the wind’, you know who I’m talking about… Ururangi. It represents the wind.  A beautiful star, high in the sky, looking down below.  Ururangi… I love you.

Ethan

This star is Tupu-ā-rangi.  Food that is high is important to this star and it is linked to birds.  The other food includes kiwifruit, feijoas and passionfruit. We will always love Tupu-ā-rangi.  It represents food in the sky.  Every single day, we will love you Tupu-ā-rangi.

Eva

My star is Waitī.  It represents fresh water creature that live in lakes, rivers and streams. Waiti  is the first star in the Matariki song.  Waiti is really close to Waitā and Matariki.  My star is really important.

Miller

Ururangi represents the wind.  He is the King of Wind. Ururangi can be found in the top and middle of the cluster.

Archer

This is the star Waipuna-ā-rangi.  It represents rain.  Waipuna-ā-rangi represents rain and it is the star on the top, left hand side of the cluster.

Mackenzie

Waita is also known as Taygeta.  It is one star away from the mum star. There are dangerous things in the sea but there is also lots of food in the sea like fish and sharks.

Sefton

This is Waitā. This star is important for ocean animals.  You will see it on the left and it is second to the bottom.

Mikaere

My star is Tupu-ā-rangi.  My star is special because it is about birds.  On the Matariki cluster our star is at the top in the corner.

Matilda

This star is the seventh star.  This star is Waipuna-ā-rangi.  This represents the rain.  We will always love Waipuna-ā-rangi. Waipuna-ā-rangi is in the top row in the cluster next to Ururangi.

Layla

This is the star Hiwa-i-te-rangi.  This star represents the promise of a prosperous season and it is a wishing star.  It’s on the left hand side in the middle of the Matariki cluster.

Hazel

Matariki is very important because it is the mother star of the stars and it is very special.  It  is the star of time past.  The connection with the environment and a symbol of gathering together.

Zeus

This star is Ururangi.  It represents the whooshy wind.  Kites float in the sky when there is wind.  This start is in the top middle of the cluster.  Ururangi is next to Waipuna-ā-rangi.

Ziara

Pōhutakawa is my star.  It represents people who have died.  You should care and look after them.  We will always look after you.  We will always look after our friends.

Rylee

Hi, my star is called Waipuna-ā-rangi.  It represents rain.  You will find it on the left hand side u p the top.  We have rain so that plants can grow.

Drew

Tupu-ā-nuku represents food from the ground.  You will see the star on the right side of the cluster. This star is awesome. You should find her.  She makes me food.
