SMC —

Our Year 9 and 10 Theatresports team will represent our school at the regional finals at The Court Theatre, Nga Kete Debating fills our campus with oratory and we celebrate our Year 7-10 girls at the Middle School Arts Awards assembly.

Junior Theatresports
Congratulations to our stunning Year 9-10 Junior Theatresports team who won their heat at The Court Theatre as part of this inter-school competition. Well done Yani Rutherford, Chloe Taylor, Zoe Fulton, Lily Burt, Sammy Hood and Poppi Hamilton. The nails were nearly bitten off in the tie-breaking finale between St Margaret's and St Thomas's but Chloe Taylor (Year 9) came through to secure us the WIN! Now the girls will prepare for the finals at the beginning of the holidays. Congratulations also to Feya Durkin and Kaitlin Burden and Mrs Katherine Tyson-McPhillips for their excellent guidance, tutoring and support.

Nga Kete Debating Competition
The annual Nga Kete Debating Competition for Year 9 & 10 girls from Canterbury took place this week, with debates scattered throughout the campus. St Margaret’s hosted for the third year in the row (as winners), with 9 schools participating and won for the 4th year in a row! We congratulate the SMC 2 team (Rosie Lester, Phoebe Jennings and Alexandra Lehmann) who performed an outstanding debate in the final negating the moot: This house believes that sexualised female pop stars identifying as feminists are harmful for feminism. Thanks to teachers Jenni McLaughlin and Rosie McTaggart for their support of this event.

Middle School Arts Awards Assembly
This week we presented certificates, badges and Colours in the arts to our Year 7-10 girls in a special assembly. Congratulations to the following girls who gained Colours: Mila Ballin, Nikita Bloy, Lucy Johnston, Georgia Lassen, Maya Laws, Alexandra Lehmann, Alice McLeod, Molly Payne, Yani Rutherford, Abby Smith, Alex Traylen and Caitlyn Wickham. We enjoyed performances from our Middle School Dance Company, Junior Theatresports team and musicians, with art on display in the atrium.
