Support Paterson Lodge

SMC —

St Margaret’s College’s Paterson Lodge, within Arthur’s Pass National Park, has been used and enjoyed by many past students and is the perfect location to enjoy some of New Zealand’s most spectacular landscapes.

Today the Lodge is much the same as when opened in 1970. It is warm and dry and set up with kitchen, bathroom, bunkrooms for 17 and common space. Located on the northern second terrace of the Waimakariri and Hawdon Rivers, near the Hawdon Shelter and campground, the Lodge has basic utilities such as water supply, internal enclosed fire heating with wetback, a four-burner gas stove, a bathroom with two sinks, a shower and a flushing toilet.

Paterson Lodge is available for hire for current St Margaret’s families and Old Girls and their families. However, we need your help to retain this unique part of the school's history.

We are currently applying to renew our concession with the Department of Conservation. The application was publicly notified last Saturday offering interested parties the opportunity to lodge objections or supporting submissions by the 18 September 2020.

To lodge a submission, head to: https://www.doc.govt.nz/get-involved/have-your-say/all-consultations/2020-consultations/2020-notified-applications/st-margarets-college-trust-board/

Download the submission form and we have provided suggestions on the key issues to support on the document attached below. Once completed, please return to DOC as per the instructions on the form.

Thank you so much for your support and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our Community Relations department.
