This end of term fundraiser for EGG will allow the girls to experience many things similar to a refugee camp as they camp overnight on the school field.

Educating Girls Globally (EGG) is a charity founded by the 2013 SMC Head Girl, Gussie Cohen, and Deputy Head Girl, Lucy Tothill. EGG’s mission is to improve the standard of and access to girls’ education in the developing world, by uniting a global network of young leaders. We are fighting for a world where everybody has the right and access to an education, regardless of their gender or socioeconomic status. EGG strongly believes that education is the best way that we can combat global poverty.

As EGG is a big focus for us this year, we have decided to initiate an ‘EGG Charity Camp’ as the main fundraising event for 2018. This camp is going to take place on the Thursday 12 April (after the Easter break). It will be an overnight camp out on the Winchester lawn, for girls from Years 7-13. We have asked the girls to fundraise a minimum of $50 to attend the event, these funds going directly to EGG.

There’s going to be lots happening over the night. Girls will be bringing their own tents in group of friends and stay the night, attending school on the Friday afterwards. They will be subjected to many things similar to a refugee camp, such as collecting water from opposite ends of the school, no technology and a token system to ‘buy’ food and supplies over the course of the night. There will also be some guest speakers sharing their experiences and educating girls on the struggles a refugee faces.

The key information for the evening:

We encourage as many girls as possible to come and support this great cause, it’s sure to be a highlight for the year!
