SMC —

Congratulations to Y13 percussionist Jasmine Ward who has been selected for the 2021 National Youth Brass Band. The National Youth Brass Band is an auditioned group drawn from musicians from across New Zealand.

In 2021 Jasmine will participate in a five-day training course in Wellington followed by a concert tour throughout New Zealand.

Debating Superstar!

Lucy Jessep has done it again!! Back in March Lucy was selected for the Canterbury debating team to compete at Nationals in May. Due to lockdown, Nationals went online and Lucy was selected for a New Zealand team to compete at Worlds.
Over the weekend, she competed with her Canterbury teammates again in another rescheduled Nationals tournament online. Her team didn't break to semis, unfortunately, with just 2 wins out of 5, but they did once again select a New Zeland team as they are hoping to create a trans-Tasman competition over the summer.
Not only was Lucy selected as part of this New Zealand Debating team, but she was also named as Captain! We are so proud of Lucy -- our debating superstar!

SMC Showcase Concert
Due to the recent arrival of Alert Level 2, we have had to reschedule the SMC Performing Arts Showcase to Monday 7 September at 6pm in the Charles Luney Auditorium at SMC. This concert will feature debut performances from 3 of the SMC rock bands as well as the first performance of 2020 for the SMC Chamber Choir.

Rebound
Rebound, the SMC Dance Night will be a celebration of Dance and all the SMC dance students have achieved this year. The show is a wonderful mix of student and teacher created choreography that highlights the amazing talent we have here at St Margaret's.
Because of COVID restrictions we have had to make this an invitation-only event.

Showquest
On Monday the Y7 and Y8 students recorded their entries for Showquest 2020. The Y8 students performed a piece on the challenging themes of climate change and wildlife poaching. This project was devised and driven by the students with the mentoring of Miss Goldsworthy. This will be entered into the Showquest on Screen competition.
The Y7 students are taking part in the Wearable Art section of Showquest, these entries were on the theme of sustainability and will be judged by WOW founder Dame Suzie Moncrieff and WOW Competition Director Heather Palmer.
Best of luck to the girls as they await the competition results!
