Wellbeing Theme - Creativity

Diana Patchett —

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” - Albert Einstein

So many studies have come to show that creativity is a crucial part of a young person’s development. It teaches them divergent thinking and how to be better problem solvers.

It should be no surprise that nurturing our girls’ creativity is central to a St Margaret’s College education. English studies help them write amazing stories, poems, and screenplays. Science lets the girls experiment with mixing chemicals, making rockets, and consider sustainable solutions to natural challenges. Mathematics can be translated into some amazing patterns and art. The creative technologies are focussed on just that, through food, soft materials, hard materials, design and media. We have music, art, drama and dance programmes that all inspire and cultivate creativity.

Things move at such a fast pace these days that we need to get creative to solve problems. We need to expand our idea of what is possible and you need to be able to think creatively to do that. As we head into Champion Week and then Arts Week to round off the term, you can be sure that the pursuit of creativity will take centre stage.
