It was a fantastic year for the 2020 Lent Markets! This year SMC chose to support the Christchurch City Mission.

As the seniors are so busy, we decided only the Middle School tutor groups and committees would have stalls, but with the option of support from senior students. And the Middle School tutor groups, with a few Senior committees, took up the challenge. Students could purchase from the stalls with money or by bringing cans of food to trade. It was amazing to see the teamwork and creativity from the Middle Schoolers (with a particular “shout out” to the Middle School Tutors!!) and the encouragement they received from senior students.

Thanks to the collective efforts of the school community, we managed to fundraise almost $2,500 and collect around 250 cans for their food bank!

In these uncertain times, we know that it feels good to give to others. The City Mission was incredibly grateful for the donations, as they are now under new pressures to supply and deliver food. Thanks to the generosity of the SMC community, we were able to support them through this difficult time.
