PFA News

SMC —

I had to double check my calendar when I realised we are heading towards our final week of Term One. As ever it has been a whirlwind and we have been involved with multiple events this term.

AN URGENT CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
Our fantastic Sports Department is looking for a couple of PFA helpers to assist with the upcoming Rowing Dinner on April Tuesday 2 April from 5pm to 10pm. General help on the bar and at the event. If you can help please contact Flavia at pfa@stmargarets.school.nz ASAP. Thank you!

At the beginning of the month, we had our Annual General Meeting. A big thank you to all parents and friends who attended; it was great to welcome new parents to the meeting. We said farewell to Jean Oliver who has been the PFA Secretary for many years. Jean has done an outstanding job and we are really grateful for all the time she has dedicated to the PFA. I also have the pleasure of welcoming Rachel Murrell who is our new Secretary. She took over at the March meeting and is doing a great job already.

The most recent news from the PFA is our visit to see Paterson Lodge which is a property St Margaret’s have rights to use on land close to Cass on the Waimakariri River. The school has had access to the property for 40+ years. The Lodge was widely used a number of years ago for tramping trips and camp, but post-earthquake the use of the lodge has dropped away. Mike Patchett is proposing to start a Committee to renovate the lodge. On this trip, the PFA joined Mike onsite to evaluate what is needed and brainstorm how we could bring together our community’s skills/expertise to bring the Lodge back to its former glory.

I include some photos of our trip. It really is the most glorious spot right on our doorstep. We have come together with an initial plan and if you would like to be involved please do come along to our April PFA meeting on 30 April at 7:00pm in the Staff Room at St Margaret’s College (located behind Reception) or reach out on email for further details: pfa@stmargarets.school.nz

If you cannot make our April meeting but would like to be involved to attend a future meeting our calendar is published on the school website https://www.stmargarets.school.nz/pfa/. Calls for volunteers for future events will feature regularly in this newsletter.
