Sports Accelerator Programme
This is run by Julie Seymour and has 3 levels. Anyone can apply to join up, across all sports codes. Julie regularly has guest speakers who talk to the girls about skills, nutrition, training, mental and physical stamina, to name but a few. Last week Sharon Kearney, ex Silver Ferns physio came in to talk to the level 1 girls about training and loading. This week we have had a sports doctor talking to the girls about energy deficit and the impact it has on them as athletes.

Level 1 Year 10
Level 2 Year 11
Advanced Year 12 and 13

Swim Club
Our lovely barista Chantelle Symons, from Maggies café, has stepped in as caretaker of Swim Club. For an hour every Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 6.45am to 7.45am, at least 15 girls all meet with Chantelle in the school pool. The main aim is to encourage fitness both in and out of the water. Chantelle runs a strength and endurance based training programme. They also make sure they have some fun with various games. On a Friday afternoon, Chantelle also coaches Year 3 to 6 girls from 3.45 to 4.30 with Vivienne Hanna taking another group on a Wednesday after school.

It is not too late to join the swim club, Chantelle would love to see a few more girls.

Tennis
Congratulations to Abby Mason on being nominated for the ORIX NZ 2019 Canterbury Sports Awards in the 2019 Young Sportswoman of the Year Category.
As a nominee for the sport of Tennis, she will automatically receive the Tennis 2019 Young Sportswoman of the Year Award.

Junior School Sports News
Exciting things have been happening in the Junior School Sports Department.
We have our first ever Year 5-6 Basketball team, which will play in Terms 2 and 3. This is very cool and we look forward to following their progress.

Kelly Sports is a new club that has been set up on Wednesday afternoons. This is a place where our girls can learn and improve on various skills. Ball handling, general fitness, working together as a team is a few of the options that the girls come across each week. Keep up the good work.
Mini Water polo, Flipper ball. This is held by Hannah Price on Tuesday lunchtimes. A fun introduction to the world of Water Polo.

Weetbix Tryathlon – As Autumn decided to remind us that it is just around the corner, 14 of our junior and middle school girls competed in the Weetbix Tryathlon. A first for St Margaret’s College to enter as a school and a big thanks to Bindy O’Callaghan for organising. The girls embraced the challenge of the wet cold weather as they biked, swam and ran their way to the finish line.
Well done to Nina Cunningham, Sabrina Macdonald, Annabelle Smallman, Maisie Diver,
Isobel Masters, Katherine Nichols, Grace Millar, Lexie Boon, Leilah Pukepuke, Genevieve Surridge,
Hannah Millar, Isabella Wilson, Emma Hoskins, and Eve Tayler
It was awesome to see our Senior Volleyball girls helping out on the day – well-done team!
It would be great to have more girls enter this event next year.

Watch this space for more Junior School sports news and as always we encourage you all to send results and photos to the Sports Office.
