From the Head of the Junior School

SMC —

This year one of our main focuses in the Junior School has been to review and implement a reporting system that best serves our families.

There were three things we wanted from our reporting system

  • a portfolio programme that gives a snapshot into your daughter’s learning at school a written
  • personalised report that gives you a comprehensive picture of her progress
  • a learning conference with your daughter and her teacher

In Term 1, we implemented Seesaw which enables you to get frequent updates from your daughter’s teachers about the learning programmes she is involved in. The analytics on this are really positive; engagement levels from families are high and the conversations I’m having with parents suggest that you have a clearer picture of the amazing work being done at school.

The second change to our Reporting to Families practice is the return of a written report. You will receive a detailed report of your daughter’s progress on Friday 30 June. This will be emailed to you in PDF format, enabling you to download and print this out at home if you choose.

And finally, on Monday 26 June you will have the opportunity to have a learning conference with your daughter and her teacher. This is a chance for your daughter and her teacher to share her Term 1 and 2 learning and her next steps with you. You will receive information about this soon.

We hope that these steps will give you a clear picture of your child’s learning.

Next week, I am heading away to the University of Massachusetts for the Future Problem Solving International Competition with the SMC FPS internationals squad made up of the current New Zealand Middle Division champions. As a passionate FPS coach, I’m excited to support these Year 10 and 11s. We’ve been preparing for months on the current topic, The Future of Currency. Wish us luck!

Have a lovely long weekend!
