Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Success

SMC —

Three teams of budding bards demonstrated professionalism and a genuine love of performance at the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare competition with one team selected to represent SMC at the Nationals.

As You Like It, directed by Ruby Anderson and Emily Stewart won Best Communication with the Audience and Best Student Directed piece at the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare competition held last weekend. The cast of Sophie McClean and Kaitlin Burden – along with dancers Polly Forbes, Lucy Fulton, Poppy Cox, Annalida Jaegar, Olivia Wilson and Georgina Lange rein-acted a scene taken from Shakespeare.
Students must come up with a setting and interpretation and breathe new life into The Bard to make him relevant for a modern audience. The girls will travel to Wellington to compete in the national competition.

Other awards for St Margaret’s were Most effective Design for Love’s Labour Lost, directed by Izzy van der Hoorn and Virginia Macdonald – cast Freya Durkin and Cara Donaldson. And Most Promising Student Directors to Georgia Benton and Nadia Edmond for their piece Comedy of Errors, they also won Best Comedy Scene.
