Arts News
We celebrated the arts in spectacular style at the end of the term with the Senior Arts Awards. The girls we recognised are creative, brave, and passionate, but more than that they are resilient, hard-working, dedicated, committed and supportive. They have exceptional skills and talents and they also give back to the school and their community and are role models for us all.
We were also treated to a series of wonderful performances from the SMC Orchestra, Jazz Band, Senior Dance Company and Georgia Lassen and Ruby Gilligan delighted us all with a performance of 'Care is ...' inspired by Emi Mahoud

An epic debate
As close as St Margaret’s College and Christ College are, when debating whether we should combine to be one co-ed school, things got heated. The SMC and College Year 13 debate teams came together for the annual Showcase Debate, arguing the motion ‘THW integrate SMC and CC to be one co-ed school’. College presented the compelling case that we should integrate the schools, as this could create the strongest co-ed school in Christchurch given our shared facilities, and the students would benefit from interacting with each other. SMC, however, were even more convincing, arguing that joining the schools would be impractical given all the differences, and therefore we shouldn’t integrate. Overall, it was a great debate and SMC were victorious, so don’t expect the schools to merge anytime soon! We were thankful to have the chance to have a bit of friendly competition with our brother school and appreciated the support of all the SMC girls who came and watched the debate.
