Year 10 Rite Journey Challenges

Lisa Williams - Deputy Head of Middle School —

Each year in the Year 10 Rite Journey programme, the students are set a series of challenges to navigate. Resilience is built by giving students challenges and helping them acquire the skills, resources and mindset necessary to overcome them.

In Term 1 students completed a Kōrero Mai (Speak to me) challenge, where they had to interview three family members across at least two generations. They then wrote a story of each person's life and created a scrapbook with photos to treasure in the future. This is often a highlight for all members of the family as they discover information and relive stories from their childhood. This challenge links strongly to 2 of the important themes of the programme of connection and compassion.

Our why behind this challenge is "You are part of a bigger story and sharing your story is essential for your connections, identity and sense of belonging"

In term 2 we are working on a creative craft challenge, which addresses the commitment theme. "Life isn't easy, we need to overcome barriers at some time and this takes grit, determination and perseverance. You need to move out of your comfort zone and into your courage zone"

Students have selected to learn knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch or a similar creative idea, and are busy developing their skill and end projects. We look forward to seeing their completed ideas.
