SMC —

Speech & Drama excellence - Gyda Heidtke has achieved the top mark in New Zealand for her ATCL Trinity Speech & Drama exam from last year.

A huge achievement for the then Year 12 student, presently Year 13. We also congratulate her teacher Roz Spiers, whose students consistently perform at this outstanding level.

Chamber Choir Clinic
Our Chamber Choir were fortunate in taking part in the first ever Christchurch-based International Choral Residency Clinic along with other Christchurch secondary school choirs at the Transitional Cathedral week 1 of this term. The girls and their director Rachel Wilford learnt a lot from the clinic’s leader, renowned choral expert Dr Jo-Michael Scheibe from the University of Southern California, and the results were palpable at the concert that evening at St Mary’s Pro Cathedral.

Senior Arts Awards
Applications for Senior Arts Awards are now closed. Girls will be notified of results once decisions have been made and successful recipients will be recognised at the Senior Arts Awards Assembly at the end of this term. Later in the term we will be welcoming applications for Middle School Arts Awards.

Arts Photos
Monday August 13th we will be taking photos of all our Arts co-curricular groups in the chapel. The timetable has gone out to students. Musicians please remember to bring your instruments, and all girls must be in correct school uniform (shirt and tie.) Please be in the chapel 5 minutes before your time slot.

Senior Theatresports Competition
Sunday August 26 we encourage you to join us for great entertainment at the regional school competition of senior Theatresports. The SMC heat starts at 2:30pm and will be held in Studio 1, E Block, in the NASDA building, 130 Madras St. Our girls have been training since the beginning of the year and we wish Bella Belcher, Kaitlin Burden, Elizabeth Cross, Feya Durkin, Sophia Lawrence and Rosie Milne all the best.

Big Sing National Finale
We wish the members of our senior combined chorale, the “Amanda Choir” all the best for their upcoming performances at the Big Sing Choral Federation Competition, to be held at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington August 30-September 1. 18 singers from St Margaret’s and Christ’s College have been practising very hard for the competition with their Director Rosemary Turnbull and will compete alongside choirs from all over New Zealand, culminating in a gala concert the last night.

NCEA Dance Evening: A Moment in Time
We welcome our community to join us Saturday September 8 at 7pm in the Charles Luney Auditorium for an evening of dance presented by our Year 11-13 NCEA Dance students. The work showcases the girls’ own choreography alongside that of Dance Head Candice Cain and will also include performances from our Middle School and Senior Dance Companies. All welcome with a gold coin donation.
