Arts Week Superstars

SMC —

Arts Week started with a round of performances at Arts Assembly, followed by one of the many highlights of the week - the staff - student debate.

This year's topic was "It is more difficult to be a student today than it has been previously". Staff arguing for the affirmative were Mr Walker, Ms Fazio-Smith and Ms Robertson, on the student team for the negative were Aisha O'Malley, Milly O'Brien and Ruby Anderson.

Notable highlights from the debate were Mr Walker feeling sorry for the current generation, they spend all night studying and dealing with internal assessments. Aisha countered this by pointing out technology has made it so much easier for today's students - why go to the library when you can Google the answers! Ms Fazio-Smith insisted life was easier when all tertiary education was free, the job market was less competitive and that all current students really need a cup of tea and a lie down.

Amongst the banter there was some quality debating with Ms Robertson bringing it home for the staff win -  successfully arguing that it is more difficult to be a student today than it has been previously.
