A letter from the PM

SMC —

Ms Double’s Year 3 class received some surprise mail this week – a letter from New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

It all started when during their inquiry into palm oil they learned how New Zealand imports 80% of the world’s palm oil kernels for our dairy industry. As a result of palm oil cultivation the world’s rainforests are being cut down, the land burned and the wildlife suffering. The girls sent letters and photos of animals and the land to Jacinda and the Minister for the Environment, Eugene Sage, to make them aware of New Zealand’s part in the devastation.

This week they received a letter back from Jacinda with her thoughts on the subject.
