Molly Campbell
Year 13 Molly Campbell has won a major national design competition, sponsored by Weta Workshop and Massey University.
Dubbed Earth Guardians character design, the competition searches for the best young concept designers, who are charged with creating a character to defend the earth, using nature and the elements to inspire their work.
Molly’s Earth Guardian, the fictitiously named Wareware is primarily carnivorous and naturally aggressive and fiercely protective of biodiversity. It spits a boiling concoction of what resembles local hot springs water scalding potential polluters and those who seek to harm its territory.
Molly's win also featured in the ODT.

Massey University’s Wellington School of Design Ngā Pae Māhutonga introduced the Earth Guardians Character Design competition last year to celebrate the launch of its Concept Design Major in the Bachelor of Design.
