Year 8 Camp

SMC —

The Year 8 students spent a fabulous three days at Kakariki Camps near Staveley.

They did archery, air rifles, bird watching and forest appreciation from hammocks, explored the Methven Agricultural Encounter, walked to the Blackburn Mine on Mt Somers, and most importantly, created a legacy project where they restored a patch of native bush.

The girls worked together to clear weeds and invasive species from around a huge beech tree, then created some living forest art to mark the new space. They had an awesome time and learned heaps more about Aotearoa's biodiversity and how they can be Kaitiakitanga - guardians of the land.
