From the Head of Junior School

Julie Calder —

As I reflect on the past six years, I, like many Year 6 parents, am wondering how time could have possibly gone so quickly. I started with many of our current Year 6’s starting in Year 1 and now, to see them graduate from our Junior School is a poignant moment.

As too, is the knowledge that our 2022 Junior School Prefect is another graduate from our Junior School. I warmly wish Annabelle March well in her role next year and know that she will be passionate and committed to this role.

Mimi Dyer, our 2021 School Prefect, has our thanks for her role this year, especially when it has been a trying year in terms of the constant juggle of organising activities around restrictions. I know you will also join in with us all as we wish her all the very best for her future.

It is very exciting to meet future St Margaret’s girls as they have been visiting over the past few weeks. Our 2022 Year 1 class have finished their transition program and are ready to begin their school journey with us next year.

On Thursday night and during the day on Friday, the Year 4’s enjoyed their “school sleepover” with an action-packed day of activities. On Thursday evening, the highlight was having dinner and spending time with our borders. There was great excitement as they explored the boarding house, chatted and swam with their bigger sisters. Today was spent exploring Christchurch. The activities were researched and organised by the Year 4’s and celebrate the end of their inquiry learning based on Early Canterbury.

We also had a lot of fun at our final Junior School Chapel service this Wednesday. It was an interactive story on the Nativity play. But, if anything, it reinforced the joy and true meaning of Christmas.
