Congratulations to our two SMC teams who competed in the Annual Ara Year 11 Chemistry Competition on Thursday 30 September 2021. The evening competition had each team working through qualitative analysis experiments and a written section.

The team of Sorell Shand, Mel Leatherland and Cara Birch, was placed second equal and the team of Emily Harris, Claudia Hundleby and Alexandra Nicolaou were placed fifth from the 11 teams that competed.

The second placed team were able to successfully identify a series of unknown solutions and solids and were only separated by a written ‘Science in Society’ section where they were asked to discuss the CCC using electric cars and the relevancy and irrelevancy of cobalt mining on the electric car use.
