SMC —

With success in Quad debating, a Visual Arts competition on the cards and a NZ Playhouse performance for Junior School, as always there's plenty happening in arts world at SMC!

Quad Debating Win
We congratulate debaters Asheligh Benson, Alexandra Lay and Milly O’Brien who won at Quad. Milly performed exceptionally, gaining an Outstanding Contribution Award.

NZ Playhouse: Red Riding Robyn Hood
The NZ Playhouse team will be performing their touring schools’ show Red Riding Robyn Hood this Friday in the Charles Luney Auditorium for our Year 1-6 girls. Accounts will be charged with approximately $8.

King George has lost the plot! In his never-ending quest to build bigger palaces, giant walls and enormous statues of himself he has raised the Land Far Far Away tax rate to 101%! Jack and Jill can’t afford to get a pail of water, Little-Bo-Peep has to sell her sheep, and even the Princess is so hungry she ate the pea.

When even the bravest of Knights are too scared to stand up to him, the Land Far Far Away cries out for a hero to put a stop to the madness of the King. Luckily their cries are heard by a mysterious red hooded figure with a bow and arrow, a basket of goodies and some very unlikely ‘Big Bad’ backup.

As well as a performance that will have you laughing all the way through, the play will challenge your students to think about traditional gender roles, bravery and standing up for what's right.

SMC Visual Art Competition
Our student Visual Arts leaders have organised a school-wide art competition to showcase the talent in the visual arts at St Margaret’s. Entries will be exhibited during Arts Week, the last week of term, in the Old Girls’ Atrium, and judged by Visual Art staff. Accepted media includes paint, pencil/coloured pencil, print, digital art, sculpture, collage and animation and there are three categories: Junior, Middle and Senior School. The theme is “Other Worlds” (your interpretation) and the deadline for entries is April 5th.

Arts Photos
Friday March 16th we will be taking photos of all our school Arts co-curricular groups for the yearbook. Photos take place throughout the day, in the Old Girls’ Atrium, and girls will need to wear correct school uniform with shirt and tie, musicians with instruments.

Cushion Cabaret #1
Our Arts Council have sent out sign-up sheets for this year’s first Cushion Cabaret, to be celebrated in the Ngaio Marsh Theatre March 26th at 6pm. These events, inaugurated last year, are informal gatherings where friends and family gather to be entertained by our performers. The intimate, relaxed atmosphere encourages soloists and small groups to showcase their talent in a supportive environment. The sign-up sheet has gone out to Student Notices and is for Year 9-13 girls.
