Wellbeing: Teamwork

Lisa Williams - Deputy Head of Middle School —

We are very young when we first start working with other people in a team or group scenario – playing games with friends in the playground and working with peers on school projects. We don't even consider how we interact with our team members and peers at this young age, we simply let our natural behaviours lead our interactions.

As we move from Junior School to Middle School and then onto Senior School, it is important to continue to learn how to work well in a team environment, how to recognise the strengths of our peers as well as ourselves and how to use this knowledge to benefit the team.

At SMC, we continue to offer a variety of opportunities for students to develop and enhance their teamwork skills. Whether this is through sporting, cultural or arts groups, projects within curriculum classes, activities on school camps/trips or specific leadership courses, it is crucial to teach and foster teamwork skills.

Working in groups and teams continues throughout our lives, from school into our adult lives. After all, it is unlikely that we’ll end up in a job where we never interact or work with other people.

"The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team"
