SMC —

Masha Lukonina, Ashley Bonne, Charlotte Coughlan, Hannah Wareing, Chloe McNeill, Rosa Turner, Alex Rees-Thomas, Ally Booth, Olivia Ferguson and Hayley Douglas have qualified to compete at the Canterbury Primary Athletic Championships on the December 5 at Nga Puna Wai.

Touch – Further to the recent selections we are thrilled to advise that Amy Jones and Chloe McNeill have been selected into the Canterbury U14 Black team. We wish them well this season.

Dragon Boating – The Aoraki Dragon Boat Schools Challenge for Canterbury Secondary Schools’ students was held at Lake Rua on Sunday 11 November. SMC won all three of their heats including a photo finish against Oxford Area School who were a co-ed team. Both these teams went on to contest the final with SMC being the overall runner-up after an extremely close race to the line. Our girls recorded exactly the same time as Marian College to be joint winners of the 650m turns race where the boats race around a triangle shaped course. SMC however did win the chant competition outright.

Hockey – Poppy McNeill was in the Canterbury Development team that tied the Festival of Hockey in Cromwell during the holidays. Well done Poppy.
Fran Williamson has been named in the Hockey NZ U18 squad.
We also have a number of players who have been named in a Canterbury Hockey Regional Performance Centre training squad for the summer. These girls will receive extra skills coaching from some of our top Canterbury coaches.

Sevens Rugby – Last week our Sevens team were successful in qualifying for the National Condor Sevens tournament in Auckland on 1-2 December. These girls are training hard in preparation.

Swimming - NZSS were held in Wellington during the holidays. Our team of Annabel Norris, Emily Barron, Violette Perry, Bridie Finch, Sienna McEwan and Maisy Perriam had a very successful meet. Emily Barron achieved five Top 10 finishes and recorded personal bests’ in every event she competed in. From these results Emily and Bridie have been selected into the Swimming Canterbury West Coast Gold Squad and will travel to Melbourne in December to compete at the Victoria State Age Group Championships. Maisy Perriam has been selected into the Bronze Squad and will compete in the Southland Champs in Invercargill in December.

Tennis - Great results from Labour Weekend- Abby Mason won the National Junior Masters 16s girls (6-3, 6-2).
This is the play offs for the top 8 players per age group in NZ. So a great effort particularly because she is still 14.

Volleyball – Over the weekend SMC had two teams competing in the Canterbury Secondary Schools’ Junior Volleyball tournament. All girls in both teams gained valuable tournament experience and improved their skills.
Our B team finished in 5th place in Div 2 grade and our A girls had a very close final game against a dominant Burnside team, ending in 2nd position in Div 1. Ella Ballantyne, Rosa Davidson and Ellie Withers were named in the tournament team. Great work from all our players.
