Introducing Miss Lloyd

SMC —

This week the Community Leaders interviewed Year 7 and 8 Dean, Miss Lloyd.

Tell us about your job at SMC. What do you love the most about your job?

I am a Year 7 and 8 teacher- I teach maths and I’m also the Y7/8 Dean. I love being able to make connections with the students and see them grow and develop. One of the coolest things about my job is the SMC Challenge for Year 7 and 8 students- S stands for Skills, M is Making a Difference giving back to the community in some way and C is for Connections so that means getting out there in our community and connecting with people beyond our school. The girls get points for things they do and at the end of the challenge they get a shiny 3D printed badge. It is really cool and the girls are absolutely loving it.

Have you ever thought about a different career? What would you do for a job if you were not a teacher?

I think I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. I love teaching but I also really love sports and I’d love to be a professional sports coach. But if I couldn’t be a teacher or coach, I’d love to be a chocolate or ice cream tester. Now that would be a good job!

What would your “perfect day” look like?

I think for me it would be a mixture of adventure and also relaxing. I’d start with a big hike early in the day up a hill to see the sunrise. Then, it’d have brunch with friends, play some board games (I love Game of Things), then some reading curled up by the fire. And finally, a relaxing soak in the spa to finish the day.

Do you have any heroes? Why do you admire that person?

My heroes are my parents. They are really hard working and have instilled that in me and my other two sisters. They are amazingly kind people who do everything they can to help others. They are my heroes and I really look up to them.

What’s the best trip you have ever been on?

I’m in the NZ Korfball team- a co-ed team of boys and girls. We went to South Africa in 2019 and played lots of other teams. It was so amazing to represent my country and embrace the culture of South Africa. We went on a safari and played lots of Korfball games. We saw elephants and giraffes and the animals came right up to us in our safari truck. It was amazing! The last trip we went on before we all had to stop travelling.

Quickfire-

What’s your Maggie’s order?
Vanilla chai latte

Would you rather kiss a frog or lick a slug?
Kiss a frog for sure

The beach or the lake? Definitely the beach.
We go to Kaiteriteri every January as a family.

Singing or Dancing?
I’m a terrible singer….actually I’m a terrible dancer too but I’m worse at singing so dancing it is!
