PFA News

SMC PFA —

A quick update on what we are up to at the PFA and to communicate more widely how we support the school and our girls throughout the school year.

We have had a busy term! Thank you to the parents who donated time and baked goodies for the Staff Morning Tea at the end of June. It was a huge success. Our Treasurer, Roger Martin has organised another two successful Father Daughter Breakfasts in the past two months. Thanks again to those parents who support Roger so early in the morning to make the breakfasts so special for the girls and their Dads.

We heard from Jayne Foster and Kerri Kippenberger about the Japanese Homestay Cooking Event they organised. They taught visiting Japanese students to a Kiwi Roast and Pavlova dinner. An amazing event to make our visiting school guests so welcome.

An enormous thank you to Diana and Michael who joined the Tech to Table Garden Group on a Sunday to take a look at the gardening project they are working on. They shared invaluable gardening tips with parents and children present.

We welcomed Diana Patchett to her first PFA Meeting last Tuesday. It was great to see new parents join our meeting from the Junior School where she listened to the updates of what we are doing as a parent group and listened to the feedback of the parents present.

With the help of the Community Relations Team we have added more content to the PFA website. We now store all agendas, finance reports and minutes of our meetings on the website. Their support of us has been invaluable.

All of these activities are only possible by the donation of valuable time from parents, friends and grandparents of SMC students; it really is so rewarding when you have been part of building this great broader network for our girls. If you would like to get involved there are a number of ways. Please come along to one of our future meetings or we look forward to connecting with you after House Chapels where we will be helping at the supper afterwards. Come and say hello!

Alternatively, if you would like to help out at one of our forthcoming events, we are looking for helpers at the following:

SMC Art Exhibition & Sculpture Garden Helpers | Friday 21 to Sunday 23 September
Bar staff on Opening Night (Friday)
Helpers to man the show (2 hours slots/or time you can donate across those days)

SMC Foundation House and Garden Tour | Sunday 28 October
The Community Relations Team have organised this event around the Old Girls Reunion Weekend. Six houses are opening their doors to welcome tours. We need parents to help out in the houses to ensure the tours run smoothly – up to six helpers per house, so any time you have to help much appreciated.

If you would like to help out at any of these events or have any questions, please contact us pfa@stmargarets.school.nz
