From the Head of Junior School

Over the past few weeks, we have been celebrating the achievements of girls in the Junior School who participate in different sports outside of school.

We have a lot to celebrate each week as the girls are very proud of themselves as they explain their achievements, wins and challenges.

Of special mention lately are the following achievements:

Savannah Dallison: Wanaka Junior Tennis Tournament winning the 10U title in both singles and doubles.

Maisie Diver: 1st place Under 12 in Canterbury Marching Championship. Her team now compete in the New Zealand Championships held later this month.

Alice Murfitt: Outstanding results in National Show Hunter and Show Jumping Championships, South Island Dressage Championships, McLeans Island, South Canterbury North Otago dressage Championships. Most of the categories that Alice enters are Under 16 or open competing against adults.

Alice Jefferies: Alice played for a Canterbury U14 team at the New Zealand Div 2 Nationals in December 2020 - a great development opportunity acknowledging that she was Year 5 versus other competitors up to Year 9! In late January 2021, she competed in the 2021 Swimming Canterbury West Coast Development Championships securing 5 Silvers. This was followed up by the Swimming New Zealand Junior Festival - Makos in Dunedin where she secured two 3rds and top 8 placings across her remaining 5 individual events and club relay. Alice has also been awarded the Most Improved Player at the Canterbury Waterpolo Awards.

Cricket
It has been very exciting to see cricket become part of our Junior School Sports program. The girls in our first ever Junior School Cricket Team are loving the opportunity to play against other schools each Friday. Now that we have a cricketing program within the school, we look forward to this becoming a regular sports offering, especially as we have the younger year levels participating in skills development during lunchtime.

Next week, we look forward to sharing results from our Independent Schools Swimming Competition which is being held on Tuesday. We wish all our competitors the best of luck.
