House Day Thursday 10 June

Next week is our annual House Day celebration. This year, it is especially significant due to the 100 years of houses at SMC. Additionally, because of last year’s situation, we have missed celebrating for the full day.

Being together as a school community is a fabulous experience and usually results in a whole lot of fun. The events are all organised by our Year 13 committee to ensure all the Junior School girls understand the importance of the house spirit that lives in the school. We encourage all the girls to have fun dressing up for house day. Nothing is too outrageous!

A few reminders for the day:

  • Girls are to bring their normal lunch to school (this is different from previous years).
  • Girls will need to organise costumes for their house plays. Please do not purchase clothing especially. If you do not have the required outfit, please let us know and we can help problem solve.
  • School will finish at 3.30pm for all girls (due to house plays).
  • Please ensure any items of clothing are named and in a bag.
  • Parents are not required for the school day.

Costume requirements as per House Prefects instructions are as follows:

Rimu: Years 1, 2 & 3: These girls will be doing the Charleston dance so if they have any black dresses or skirts that would be great. If not, just a full black outfit would work too. We will sort out headbands.

Years 4, 5 & 6: Jeans/long pants and any colour shirt/blouse. Any type of casual shoes work.

Rata: The Junior School girls are in the movie ‘High School Musical’ and they are at a ‘school dance/disco.” They will need clothing that is red and white.

Matipo: The Junior School’s part in the house play is to the song Honey, Honey - Mamma mia. They will need to wear anything yellow or relates to honey.

Manuka: White clothes which may include tutus or any accessories.

Kowhai: Green top (could be a t-shirt, long sleeve, hoodie any green on the top) and brown pants (long, shorts, skirt etc any sort of brown bottoms). If this is not possible, then a dark top or legging will be fine.

Konini: The colour theme for their scene is purple, so any purple clothing and accessories
