Learning Out and About

Over the past week, Year 1 and 2 have taken the opportunity to visit our valuable resources in the city to learn.

Firstly there was a practical learning experience at the Turanga Library where the girls learned about Early Maori in Canterbury as part of their Cultures unit. Whilst there, they took the opportunity to read books, taking books home to share with our whanau, exploring Turanga and all it has to offer our Tamariki.

Secondly, a visit to our art gallery was an opportunity to extend Year 1 and 2’s artistic knowledge and skills. They spent their time looking at a few different artworks in the Te Wheke exhibition, followed by a lesson on pictorial map making. The girls were all given a clipboard, and some paper and the focus was their families. They drew the people in their family, some unique things in their homes, things special to our cultures. The girls were also most excited by their mode of transport, to and from both outings! Double-decker bus rides!
