Grow Ōtautahi

We are thrilled to announce that our Junior School Garden has been awarded a Gold Medal with an emphasis on Education.

This is so meaningful to us as the impetus for our garden was ensuring that our tamariki and our whanau understand the importance of being guardians of our environment. It has been the most wonderful experience today seeing our girls interact with the public.

Their pride in explaining the significance of the learning that has taken place. An added highlight has been the many people who have come to visit us because of their connection to the school. We have met old girls, past families and teachers as well as future families.

With the school’s theme this year being “create your own masterpiece”, there is no doubt that the Junior School has fulfilled this with the creation of the garden. It is one thing to see the plan on paper, it is quite another to see the final result.

We have all been thrilled with the way the garden looks. The photo does not do it justice as the detail in the garden will leave you occupied for a long time. From every angle and every time you look, you will see something different.

The detail and planning into this garden (which has been at least five months in the making) would not have been possible without Paulette Double. Having someone in your team that drives and motivates you to achieve and learn through action is a blessing that few schools are able to boast. Paulette has been instrumental in bringing all of the Junior School on this journey. The props were all built by Steve in the maintenance department at school. Without their talent and commitment to this project, the garden would have looked very different. Finally, a huge thanks to the families who have helped with growing extra plants, donating props, giving help with organisation, and, to all the Junior School girls. Our masterpiece would not have been possible without such strong collaboration in our community. Many, many thanks.
