Hockey girls come back for the win

Sophie Chisholm (Year 13) —

On Wednesday 22 May, the St Paul's Girls' 1st XI Hockey team played Hamilton Girls High School 2nd XI at Waikato Dio.

Poor light conditions made for a difficult game, but the girls persevered and came out eager for a win however, Hamilton Girls matched their performance. A lot of unexecuted circle entries and shots at goal from St Paul's, coupled with strong defence from Girls' High lead to St Paul's trailing at the end of the first half, 1-0.

The second half of the game saw a new attitude from the St Paul's girls. More aggression for the ball resulted in multiple penalty corners and four goals (once each scored by Darcy Hunter, Ayla Hall, and two scored by Jess Scatchard). Staying on offense for the remainder of the game and blocking Girls' High's attempts at scoring saw the girls come away with a 4-1 win.

Player of the day for the second week in a row was Cate Wilson for continued defence and excellent attack.
