Meet our ‘House Mums’

St Paul's Collegiate School —

House matrons Karen L’Amie of Sargood, Maree Johns of Clark and Gloria Thompson of Williams, provide friendly, empathetic and nurturing care to our boarding boys.

House matrons Karen L’Amie of Sargood, Maree Johns of Clark and Gloria Thompson of Williams, provide friendly, empathetic and nurturing care to our boarding boys.

A matron is a mum away from home to our boarding students who help with before-school and after -school routines – just like a mum at home would. This helps create special bonds between matrons and the boys in their house.

Our matrons’ day starts at 7.30am helping the boys organise their laundry, ensuring their beds are made or sewing a missing button on their school uniform. At 8.30am when the boys begin school, they check the house is in order and lock the dorms. They are off-duty after 10.30am and arrive back for duty at 3.30pm to help with afternoon chores.

Gloria has been a House Matron at St Paul’s for a mammoth 49 years!

We are so grateful for our matrons who contribute significantly to the smooth running of our boarding houses.
