Te Awamutu Music Competitions

St Paul's Collegiate School —

Matthew Chanwai (Year 12) entered the Te Awamutu Competitions on Monday 3 October and won the following awards:

  • 16 and Under 18 Strings Scholarship Classes where he also achieved the Muir Memorial Trophy
  • Winner of the Acoustic Instrumental Recital Class (Open - under 25), also receiving the Nicholson Memorial Trophy and $500
  • Overall Most Promising String Player 16 Years and Over and the Norris Hall Trophy

Matthew was also named the Nominee to compete in the New Zealand National Young Performer of the Year Awards in 2023.

In addition, Emily Jin (Year 13), Scott Zhou (Year 12) and Matthew Chanwai entered the Chamber Music Ensemble Class and were awarded first place, winning the Drs Le Quesne and Heywood Trophy and Award of $600.
