First XI Boys' Hockey Team head to Christchurch
The First XI Boys' Hockey Team travelled to Christchurch to compete in the Worner Shield. Having already played Whangarei and Westlake during Term 2, they started the trip against a strong Christchurch Boys' High School team after a long delay and tricky landing at Christchurch airport in the fog. St Paul's struggled to stem the flow of goals against them but managed two goals, losing 7-2.
The next day the team played Christ's College early in the morning. The game was an even tussle locked at 1-1 until late in the third quarter when Christ's took the lead 2-1. A tired fourth quarter by St Paul's saw Christ's take a 4-1 win on the final whistle. In the final game against St Bede's, another decent performance from St Paul's meant the game was competitive. However, with a turn late in the game, St Bede's took the win 5-1. While the results weren't what the team looked for, the performances were pleasing against strong teams.
