Strings above the rest - students selected for national orchestra

St Paul's Collegiate School —

Students, Dion Xue (Year 13) and Matthew Chanwai (Year 10) have been selected to be members of the NZSSSO - New Zealand Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra for 2020.

This is Dion's first selection into the orchestra, where he will play in the Viola section and be seated at 2nd desk. Matthew was in the NZSSSO last year, and is once again selected to be seated in the Cello section at 2nd desk.

The NZSSSO provides a great opportunity for New Zealand's top secondary school musicians to experience playing in a full Symphony Orchestra. Students are selected after an audition. The NZSSSO course runs for six days, during which students participate in a variety of practical sessions – culminating in two public performances.
