Andrew Gibbs bids farewell

St Paul's Collegiate School —

Friday 6 November saw the tenure of one of our long-serving staff, Mr Andrew Gibbs, came to an end.

During his 16 years at St Paul's, Mr Gibbs was involved in a number of areas of school life. Spending his teaching career in the Physical Education department, he was taken in and mentored by Mr Wilson and Mr Gilbert in his early days, and his work ethic and love for the job saw him finish as Head of Department in PE.

A caring man, Mr Gibbs held multiple coaching and pastoral roles. He was first XV rugby coach and organised one of the Argentinian rugby and hockey tours with great attention to detail and passion. He was Deputy Housemaster of Williams House, but is best known for his strong leadership of School House - and was the mastermind behind their dominance in the house singing competition. He was also instrumental in the introduction of the Emotional Intelligence programme within the school.

This towering giant with a big heart, a smile on his face, a joke to tell, or a song to sing, will be dearly missed. He now heads down the road to take on the Assistant Headmaster's role at Hamilton Boys’ High School, a position we wish him all the best with.

Thank you Mr Gibbs.
