Fashion and food galore at Harington Fashion Show

Isabel Mallett and Julia McLean —

Harington House held their twelfth annual fashion show on 5 April 2019. An event that was preceded by hours of planning and hard work that created a truly wonderful evening.

The theme this year was ‘fashion through the ages’. Each house was presented with a decade spanning from the 1920s to 1980s. After researching, they took any inspiration they wished from their decades, deciding on what they would base their outfits, skits, cake and speech. This theme was interpreted in many different ways.

Some houses chose to highlight the global turmoil experienced in the 1930s, the food consumed in the 1950s or the games that were released and entertained the children of the 1980s. The outfits created by the girls had to be created with purely recycled materials.

They were also allowed a $40 budget per house to accommodate the ingredients needed for their cakes and any other props or sets they may want to use during their skit performances.

The house placings for this evening were created by our esteemed judges. Each house was given individual scores and placings for each of their creations, their cake, outfit, speech and skit. These were all then combined to create the final overall placings. The top 3 overall houses are as follows:

  • Fitchett - first place
  • Clark - second place
  • Hall - third place

Overall, the girls were able to create some outstanding outfits, incredibly intricate cakes as well as wowing the judges and audience with the range of talent and enthusiasm that resides in each house with their skits.

A huge thanks must also go out to all the heads of houses, Year 13’s and staff for the endless energy and hours put into organising such an enjoyable and successful evening to represent 2019’s Harington house girls.
