Mathematical skills tested
The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and questions are designed so that they can be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one.
On 9 August 2018, sixty four St Paul’s students participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition.
This competition is made up of mathematics questions which need to be completed in 75 minutes.“The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and questions are designed so that they can be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one. The problems get more difficult through the competition, so that at the end they are challenging to the most gifted students. Students of all standards will make progress through the problems, and also be challenged along the way.” (Australian Mathematics Trust)
Results show that, once again, some of our students have performed to a very high level. Ten students have gained Distinction, and one Year 9 student, a High Distinction.
These students are to be congratulated on their superb efforts!
